CompassesCompasses were first built to make sure that the Chinese homes were constructed facing south. The homes were built this way because south, not north, was considered their cardinal direction. It is said that Feng Shui invented the compass for “direction finder” according to a Song Dynasty book during the periods between 960-1279 BC . The earliest compass was made of lodestone, with a spoon looking thing in the middle and dates back to the fourth century BC. Compasses have changed our society today because when we go hiking we don’t have to worry about getting lost.

PAperPaper is said to have been first invented by a Chinese who goes by the name of Cai Lun during the Eastern Han dynasty. Paper was made using fish nets, tree bark, bits of rope and shredded rags. The paper itself was made of wood fibers and water pressed onto woven cloths. This invention dates back to around 220 Bc-9 AD and is used by the Chinese to write on. Paper is considered to be one of the four greatest inventions of Ancient China. If paper wasn’t invented we would have to write on rocks and on the ground.
